This is one of the better candlepin bowling items i've had in some time. Its about 5 3/4" tall and made by NG Woods & Sons of Boston and is some form of silver. You can see inside it is a silver of some sort. NG Woods from what I read made their own silver items on site. The top rim appears to have had a ball sitting on it for a while and with the weight maybe is why it is out of round or had been dropped long ago hard to say. This is tarnished or from the way some previous owner had tried to clean it or the way it had been cleaned over the years. I never clean silver so do not know exactly what to use or what had been used.
This is quite old and from towards the beginning of candlepin bowling. We had seen some pieces surface the last 10 years from the Boston Athletic Club Association but were more of wood signs with bowlers and years they bowled etc. This is an actual 1892 tournament award that went to a Samuel Carr as inscribed on it. The Boston Athletic Association insignia tag in the middle has a 1887 date so is possible that is when it opened. Besides value to the silver this is a historical bowling item award and deserves to go to someone who will display it for others to see. Its stands nice with no wobble and for being over 128 years old i'd say is in very good condition. USA shipping only.
